Profile:The County and the Madison County Rescue Squad ("MCRS") have, for several decades, cooperated in order to deliver emergency medical services to the citizens of Madison County. MCRS volunteers have provided countless hours of selfless service and have established an outstanding record in fulfilling the EMS mission. In 1999, at the request of the Squad, the County established an emergency medical services ("EMS") delivery system consisting of a combination of government-employed and volunteer personnel. Pursuant to Virginia Code §27-6.1, the County established a County department referred to as the Madison Department of Emergency Medical Services ("MEMS"). The head of that department is known as the Director, and he reports to the County Administrator. The Director is empowered to make bylaws, rules and regulations and to do all things reasonably necessary to promote the objectives of the department, consistent with Chapter 2, Article 1 of Title 27 of the Code of Virginia and other laws of this Commonwealth. |
